What is a yeminli tercüman – and who provides certified translations in Germany?
Yeminli tercüman is the Turkish term for a sworn translator; in Germany, depending on the federal state, these professionals are called authorised, sworn or publicly appointed translators.
In North Rhine-Westphalia, under section 33 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Justice Act (Justizgesetz NRW), translators are authorised by the court (ermächtigt) and interpreters are generally sworn (allgemein beeidigt). An authorised translator confirms with a certification statement, stamp and signature that the translation is complete and accurate. German authorities generally accept such a certified translation throughout Germany – from the registry office (Standesamt) in Duisburg to the immigration office (Ausländerbehörde) in Cologne.
Not to be confused with a certified copy: this only confirms that a copy matches the original. Certified copies are issued by the citizens' office (Bürgeramt) or a notary, not by the translation agency.
Which Turkish documents do we translate most often?
We most frequently translate civil status documents from Turkey – for weddings, the birth of a child, naturalisation or family reunification.
- Civil registry extract (Nüfus Kayıt Örneği) – for the registry office, often the full version with all entries (tam vukuatlı)
- Birth certificate (Doğum Belgesi) – find out more under Birth certificate translation
- Family booklet (Evlenme Cüzdanı) and marriage certificates – see Marriage certificate translation
- Divorce decree (Boşanma Kararı) with a note confirming that it is final (kesinleşme şerhi)
- Certificate of no impediment to marriage (Evlenme Ehliyet Belgesi)
- Driving licence (Sürücü Belgesi), for example for exchanging it for a German licence – find out more under Driving licence translation
- Diplomas and certificates for recognition, studies and job applications
Do I need an apostille for Turkish documents?
Whether an apostille is required is decided by the German office where you submit the document; it is issued in Turkey, which has been a party to the Hague Apostille Convention since 1985.
The apostille confirms the authenticity of the original document. It is affixed by the competent Turkish authority, not by the translation agency. If possible, have the apostille added before the translation. We can then translate it at the same time, saving you a second order.
German documents in Turkish: what do Turkish authorities require?
We translate German certificates, judgments and diplomas into Turkish – but you should check in advance with the Turkish office which form of certification it accepts.
Typical occasions include registering a marriage concluded in Germany or the birth of a child in the Turkish civil register, a divorce, an inheritance or the recognition of a German qualification. In Germany, the contact points are the Turkish consulates general – in North Rhine-Westphalia, for example, in Essen, Düsseldorf, Cologne and Münster. For use in Turkey, an apostille on the German original may be required, which is issued by a German authority. Whether the translation must additionally be confirmed by a Turkish notary or consulate is decided by the Turkish office. We tailor the translation to its requirements.

How much does a certified Turkish–German translation cost?
The cost of a certified Turkish–German translation depends on the length, type of document, delivery date and shipping; for standard documents, we give you a binding price once you have uploaded them.
A short civil registry extract is translated faster than a divorce decree of several pages with a statement of reasons. If you need several documents for the same purpose, such as all the paperwork for a wedding, it is best to combine them in one order. Costs are only incurred once you accept.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions – Certified Turkish–German Translation
Short, clear answers. Your question is not listed? We are happy to advise you personally.
Ask your questionHow much does it cost to translate a Turkish civil registry extract?
The price depends on the length, delivery date and shipping. As the civil registry extract is a standard document, we give you a binding price once you have uploaded a photo or scan. The quote is free and without obligation. If you need several documents for the same purpose, we combine them in one quote.
Do you also offer certified Turkish translations for Cologne?
Yes. Customers from Cologne place their orders with us online: upload your document, receive a quote and get your certified translation by post. The translation is generally valid throughout Germany, including with authorities and courts in Cologne. Good to know: our office is in Mülheim an der Ruhr, not in the Cologne district of Mülheim.
Where can I find a sworn Turkish translator in Duisburg or Oberhausen?
Very close by: our office in Mülheim-Styrum borders on Duisburg and Oberhausen. You can drop off Turkish documents without an appointment (Mon–Fri 8:30 am – 4:30 pm) or send them online. The certified translation is produced by court-authorised translators for Turkish – known in Turkish as yeminli tercüman.
Will the registry office and the driving licence authority accept the translation?
As a rule, yes. Certified translations by court-authorised translators are accepted by registry offices, driving licence authorities (Fahrerlaubnisbehörde), immigration offices and courts throughout Germany. Some offices also want to see the original or require an apostille on the Turkish document. It is best to clarify this in advance – we are happy to advise you.
Is a photo of my Turkish civil registry extract enough?
For the quote and the translation, yes. A clearly legible photo or scan of all pages is sufficient – including the reverse side, barcode and stamps. You keep the original. Some authorities also want to see the original when you submit the translation, so it is best to bring it with you to your appointment.
Do you also translate German documents into Turkish?
Yes. We translate German certificates, judgments, diplomas and contracts into Turkish, for example for a Turkish consulate general or an authority in Turkey. The Turkish office decides which certification it requires, such as an apostille on the German original. Ask them in advance and we will tailor the translation accordingly.
Are there Turkish–German interpreters too, for example in Gelsenkirchen?
Yes. We arrange Turkish interpreters on site in the Ruhr area, for example in Gelsenkirchen, Duisburg, Oberhausen or Essen, and throughout Germany by video and phone. Typical assignments include appointments at the registry office, at a notary, in court, at the doctor's or at school. By video or phone, an assignment is often possible on the same day.
Do you also translate Kurdish or Zaza?
Yes. As well as Turkish, we translate and interpret Kurdish (Kurmanji and Sorani) and Zaza, among other languages. Documents from Turkey are issued in Turkish, but conversations at the doctor's or with authorities often go better in the person's native language. Simply tell us the language you need when you make your request.
